Reptiles, Amphibians & Exotic Pets
Ball Python
Ball Pythons are popular pet snakes known for their generally calm temperament and manageable size. With proper care, they can live around 20 to 30 years or more in captivity, so they are a long-term commitment. They need a secure enclosure with an appropriate temperature gradient, controlled humidity, hiding areas, fresh water, and a diet of properly sized rodents. Regular monitoring of temperature, humidity, feeding, and shedding helps keep them healthy.
King Snakes
King Snakes are active, hardy snakes known for their attractive patterns and relatively straightforward care. Depending on the species, they often live around 15 to 20 years in captivity. They need a secure enclosure, warm and cool areas for thermoregulation, hiding places, clean water, and properly sized prey. King Snakes are strong feeders and should generally be housed alone because they may prey on other snakes.
Bearded Dragon "Beardies"
Bearded Dragons are friendly, curious reptiles that are popular because of their calm personalities and interactive behavior. They commonly live about 8 to 12 years with proper care. Bearded Dragons need a spacious enclosure, strong UVB lighting, a basking area with the correct temperature, fresh water, and a balanced diet of insects and leafy greens. Proper lighting, calcium supplementation, and temperature control are especially important for healthy bones and growth.
Chameleons
Chameleons are striking reptiles known for their color changes, independently moving eyes, and specialized climbing ability. Lifespan varies by species, but many commonly kept chameleons live around 3 to 7 years in captivity. They require a tall, well-ventilated enclosure with branches and plants, strong UVB lighting, proper basking temperatures, controlled humidity, and regular misting or dripping water. Chameleons also need a varied diet of appropriately sized insects and careful attention to hydration.
Green Anoles
Green Anoles are small, active lizards known for their bright green coloration, ability to shift toward brown tones, and expandable pink throat fan called a dewlap. With proper care, they typically live about 4 to 8 years. They need a tall, well-ventilated enclosure with branches and plants for climbing, appropriate UVB lighting, a warm basking area, moderate-to-high humidity, and regular misting. Green Anoles eat small live insects such as crickets and roaches, and they generally do best as display pets rather than frequent handling animals.
Tortoises
Tortoises are fascinating reptiles known for their slow pace, sturdy shells, and exceptionally long lifespans. Depending on the species, many can live 40 to 80 years or even longer, making them a major long-term commitment. They require plenty of floor space, proper heat and UVB lighting, species-appropriate humidity, fresh water, and a diet based largely on grasses, leafy greens, and other suitable plant foods. Their enclosure should allow room to explore, bask, hide, and move comfortably.
Emperor Scorpion
Emperor Scorpions are large, impressive arachnids known for their dark coloration and generally less defensive nature compared with some other scorpion species. They typically live around 5 to 8 years with proper care. They need a secure enclosure with warm temperatures, high humidity, deep substrate for burrowing, hiding places, and access to clean water. Their diet consists mainly of live insects such as crickets and roaches. Although they are often considered relatively calm, they should still be handled as little as possible.
White's Tree Frogs
White’s Tree Frogs are large, easygoing amphibians known for their rounded appearance, calm temperament, and distinctive green to bluish coloration. With proper care, they can live about 10 to 15 years in captivity. They need a tall enclosure with branches and climbing areas, moderate humidity, clean water, appropriate temperatures, and regular misting. Their diet consists mainly of live insects such as crickets and roaches. White’s Tree Frogs are generally hardy compared with many amphibians, but their skin is sensitive, so handling should be limited and done with clean, damp hands.
Axolotls
Axolotls are unique aquatic salamanders recognized by their feathery external gills and unusual appearance. With proper care, they often live around 10 to 15 years. They require a cool, fully aquatic aquarium with clean, stable water, gentle filtration, and no sharp decorations that could damage their delicate skin. Axolotls do best in cooler water and should not be kept at tropical fish temperatures. They are carnivorous and typically eat foods such as worms, pellets, and other appropriate high-protein foods. Fun fact: Axolotls can regenerate lost limbs, parts of their spinal cord, and even portions of some organs without forming typical scar tissue.
